WTShaw, I'm sure you're proud of your achievements. But hasn't it
crossed your mind that something like a weblog is more appropriate

sci.crypt reader was interested in this. [...]
Sorry, if I am not talking to you, so be it.
I'm the only one who bothered to reply, you know? This should tell you
something.
Cheers!

I take it that you are unhappy, in a Spinoza defined sort of way.
Gentlemen,
Here are my "two cents" worth (flame me if you wish :-) ),
(*) I have been following WTShaw's postings. Not every one of them,
but the general concept is an interesting one. Most people don't take
the time to reply, so you never know how many people are reading
them. SG's original posting assumed things that might not be
accurate.
(*) IMHO, SG meant no harm or ill will. Rather, he mentioned what he
feels is the best venue for M94X2 development. He took the time to
write -- give him the benefit of the doubt.
(*) I agree with SG that a blog would be a good, modern way to keep
track of WTShaw's creative ideas and postings. At the current rate,
this thread will become very deep, which does not seem the goal of
news groups. How about a blog dedicated to M94X2, with periodic
(monthly?) postings to sci.crypt on interesting developments. Readers
can be pointed back to the blog site for the "meat". You'll also get
an M-94-related presence on the web.
I did something similar with my site, The Chaocipher Clearing House
(http://www.mountainvistasoft.com/chaocipher). There's way too much
material to post here, so TCCH holds the information, while I
periodically post to sci.crypt.
BTW, if you get involved with other related cryptographic, commenting
on their endeavors via their blogs, you'll find traffic being drawn to
your own site -- a win-win situation.
(*) There are other M-94 sites: Wikipedia and Brooke Clarke's M-94
Cipher Wheels site (http://www.prc68.com/I/M94.shtml) to name a few.
Collaborate with them. Contact Lloyd Greenwood, a co-author of
several multiplex-related articles in Cryptologia -- what is his take?
(*) How about a challenge message at some point with a prize to
generate interest? Are you considering an eventual article in
Cryptologia?
(*) Is there an on-line site someone could play with?
(*) Is M94X2 more resistant to known M-94 cryptanalytic techniques,
e.g., De Viaris, Friedman? What are your thoughts on cryptanalytic
techniques for solving M94X2? In your opinion, how strong of a cipher
is it: low-, middle, or high-tactical level? Higher than that? Why
do you think so? What have you done to close up known weaknesses?
I look forward to seeing M94X2 reach fruition. Take comments like
SG's as constructive criticism. Do that and you'll have a winner.
Regards,
Moshe Rubin
