There's already a body of established practice. You can get the
/Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard/ and supporting
documents, for free, at:
https://www.pcisecuritystandards.org/tech/index.htm
If the site simply needs to accept payment by credit card, there
are third-party services set up for that. Your site need never
see the sensitive information, and thus the security and audit
requirements are on them, not you. They take a higher percentage
than you'd pay with your own merchant account, of course.
And I am getting paid $50 to get it up. So don't expect a fortune from
this guys.
Where did your friend get the idea you were qualified?
