I did a quick "whois" on supernews.com and found that they are a
network newsfeed company (i.e. they provide USENET feeds and do spam
filtering for their clients).

Hopefully this is not a misguided effort by some salesman attempting
to drive business to his company. However, my guess is that someone
has spoofed that company's ID in an effort to spread disinformation.

Bingo. AKA a 'joe job'. And given that From lines can contain
absolutely anything, it's barely even 'spoofing' supernews.

Not sure what such idiots get out of doing this type of thing? It
just demonstrates their single-digit IQ rating.

It's part of an attack on sci.crypt that's taken place for
several months now. You didn't notice that the 'Followups-To'
header was set to point towards sci.crypt, and therefore
you, and about a hundred others from the thousands of newsgroups
that this sporgery has been posted to, were unwittingly part
of the attack on sci.crypt.
