Joe,
Why all of the venom in your hatred-filled email response?
I just wanted to inform the community that a new book was coming off
the presses shortly. If you don't want to buy the book, then don't.
Since you are so intent on attacking the book and its authors....you
claim to be a cryptanalyst. Is that the only "credential" that you
have, in support of your vitriolic email. Do you have more experience
than a 7+ year cryptologist from NSA?
Sincerely,
Richard M. Low

There is no need to be so cynical. I just wanted to let the community
know about the upcoming book. If you had taken the time to click on
the link to find out more about the authors, then you wouldn't have
posted your last email.
Ok, then how about this response. I did look at the authors, I did look at
the table of contents, and I am a cryptanalyst, there should be no
complaining about my qualifications in this. Based on the table of contents
it looks to be a poorly thought out compilation of the attacks known by two
people a few years ago. It does not appear to represent any useful
information about the process of finding attacks. It does not appear to
provide any useful information about the methodology of construction to
avoid attack. It does not seem to offer anything except what would be
required in an extremely basic introductory class in cryptography, oh yeah,
I found that too. If the students involved want to actually learn about
cryptography have them just walk across campus to King Library, log in to
the system using their ID, and read the actual journals covering the
attacks, primary sources are always better than the at least secondary and
probably tertiary or further sources such as the book. So basically I'm
saying this appears to be a thinly veiled attempt by a professor to use
their position to slightly raise their income, a pasttime that I'm sure you
can determine my viewpoint of.
Joe
