the source code, there is little incentive to develop a new algorithm,
as no one can hope to market it. Except maybe as a hobby.
a) You can always publish a new algorithm after you've patented it. So you
can make a new algorithm a commercial success. There's your incentive.
b) Programs get written all the time. They /use/ algorithms. Evidence that it
uses a particular algorithm is given by publishing enough information
to write a compatible counterpart.
