Re: Help with hardware vs. software on the fly crypt solution?

Thank you for your reply. If I have not been clear I'l summarize what
I believe I've stated as my requirements.

1) I want to prevent people from having access to my software.

Software on an unnetworked computer in your basement? Software that's on a server you control? Software on a server at your ISP? Software on your customers' PCs? Each of these cases presents a different challenge.

My approach to this goal is various firewalls, usage of
computers do connected to networks or Internet, etc.

2) I want to prevent people from using my software or code.

There must be more to it than that. That could be solved by keeping the only copy on a flash drive in your pocket.

If my defense above and a few other access related defenses
are breach OTFE would provide another layer of defense.

While these requirements are broad they should be clear.

Again I thank everyone who has responded with suggestions
including the response that OTFE is fast enough for my
purposes. With that being the case -- it is definitely a layer
I plan to add to my defenses.

Forgive my ignorance, but what does On-The-Fly Encryption mean? Does it mean encryption somewhere between a program's write() call and the operating system sending corresponding data to a disk?
