Q: How to test new hash algorithm?

Dear NG

This might me off topic, feel free to point me to the right news group...

I just made a Hash algorithm, because I needed one.
It makes a N digit hex number from a text string.

How do I test the quality of the algorithm?
Is there a 'standard' set of tekst strings that I can feed it?
I guess the output should be close to a normal destribution, is that correct?

:-) Martin
