I don't see that sci.crypt has much do with classic information theory,
but popular sci.crypt topics touch security, biometric keying, and so
forth. Captchas are authentication mechanisms that supposedly distinguish
a class of legitimate users ("humans") from other users ("bots"). If
it is reasonable to talk about distributed attacks on RSA keys, then
it may be reasonable to talk a little about brute force or distributed
attacks on captchas (e.g. the porn proxy hack).
At most a little capcha talk is justified little compared to cryptography
or cryptoanalysis. On the other hand, compared many other popular
sci.crypt topics better left unmentioned ...
