The problem is that you're reading too much into what I said.

I never said anything about the AES spec.
All I said was that based on the votes received during the
competition, the ciphers won in that specific order, from first to
last. And based on the votes, Serpent did in fact receive 2nd place
in the sense that it got the second greatest number of votes. This
really isn't a difficult concept to grasp.
I've already acknowledged and stated that only the first place cipher
received any recognition. There were no ribbons or trophies handed
out for second or third place.
But to say that all the other ciphers lost the race in an equally bad
ranking is ridiculous, because they clearly didn't. Serpent garnered
much more support than MARS did, therefore they shouldn't be ranked
equally in any way, shape or form.
