OK. You might try "A Course in Number Theory and Cryptography" by
Neal Koblitz, which gets into the math of public key crypto. You
should also work through Bellare and Rogaway's lecture notes on
concrete security:

As with any math text, make sure to do as many of the exercises as you
can. The notes are incomplete but even what's there completely
demystifies a lot of the nonsense in fielded crypto and you'll
understand why so much of what you see is crap.

They've had the academic publishing racket sewn up for quite a long
time. You're dealing with academia, not the computer industry.
Note there were CD-ROM's made of the IACR conference proceedings.
There's one from Springer that goes from the beginning to 1997(?) and
cost around $75(?). I'm not sure if it's still available. Then
there's one from 1998-2004 directly from IACR for just $10:

so they're couthing up in this regard.
