I definitely know where I'm headed, it's in the plan. It's just always
up in the air as to whether or not I'll get there :)

Perhaps, but if an idea has merit, then it can pull itself along. The
only thing VC is good for is quicker growth. That is something I'd be
interested in, but not at the expense of all else. My experience with
them has lead me not to trust them. In watching other companies rise
and fall I got a better feel for them. They demand too much too fast
and react poorly if they don't get it. Many a company with a decent
potential was scuttled or derailed due to VC pressure.
Even more important to me, a privacy service cannot be run by someone
who's only concern is profit. If that is true the company will always
sacrifice privacy for profit. VC in the mix means suits blinded by
dollar signs making bad decisions. No way, not here, the only bad
decisions are mine to make and they'll always be made with privacy or
security as a deciding factor, not profit.

Very true. I can say one thing, life is much more pleasant without
anyone second guessing me or breathing down my neck. My goal was really
just to provide a great service at a very decent price that supported
itself, it's growth, me and my family, and allowed me to work from home
in my underwear as my own boss. As for doing it without VC, I'll tell
you, it's not all that uncomfortable being in a small niche and growing
slowly, especially when you already made it past the "was that a tow
truck I heard? Are they repossessing the truck?" stage. :)
