The real disarmament was many years before that.
Keeping a loaded revolver under the pillow was
banned many years ago. A rife had to be kept
unloaded in a metal cabinet with an approved
6 lever lock. Burglars knew it would take at
least 5 minutes to draw that gun.
The big difference was the fall of the Iron Curtain.
Smugglers suddenly found that they had access to
lots of ex-military weapons.
It may be cool for black British youths to carry a
gun but if the police search you, are in big
trouble.
