I get this reply alot and it's simply not true.

You could for instance, write your mail client to *prioritize* mail
based on the hashcash tag.

SMTP *already* supports additional X tags and such. So you make a new one

X-HASHCASH = ADEADFAD232....

Then the client can sort them [or what not] based on the existance [and
validity] of the tag.

So yes, it would be *TOTALLY* backwards compatible.
