To be honest, I'm not sure...
The Central East Europe has cultural relationships that go pretty far
back in history. The spelling system is one of them. It was introduced
there during early Middle Ages, and they got a dialect of the Latin
letters that is different from the one that was used further in west.
Hungarian translitteration uses 's' for German sch, 'sz' for s, 'cs' for
tsch, and 'cz' for ts.
I remember hearing from a Hungarian that Polish uses similar spelling
rules. But Polish is a Slavic language and has sounds that Hungarian as
a Fenno-Ugric one doesn't. Therefore some Polish names seem to contain
far too many consonants. Usually you take a group of consonants and
produce only one sound.
