My XP-Pro SP2 PC was upgraded to SP3 2 days ago. The PC is attached to
a domain that is not local (it is accessed now and then via VPN
tunneling).
After the upgrade to SP3 my wife's XP-Home SP1 PC can no longer use
the printer I have attached to my PC and shared on the LAN. She can
also not access the file shares she used to reach. :-(
I have tried deleting the drive mappings on her PC and recreated them
and then entered the user/password for a number of known good accounts
on my XP-Pro PC, but to no avail. It stays unconnected!
The XP-Home PC is attached to a workgroup with exactly the same name
as the domain my PC is attached to.
What has happened and how can I fix it???
I have now checked that if I try to connect to the shared
folders/printers from a laptop on the LAN it works OK.
The laptop is connected to a *different* domain than my desktop PC 8it
is my work PC) and is running XP-Pro SP2. Yet it works fine when the
domain account logged in on the laptop (on the different domain) has
the same user/password as a local account on my SP3 PC.
Questions:
-----------
1) Does it matter if the connecting SP1 PC runs XP-Home as opposed to
XP-Pro?
2) Is the problem that connections from XP-Home SP1 (or XP-Any SP1)
are no longer permitted to an XP-Pro SP3 machine?
(I might have posted this on the wrong group (no replies), so I am now
posting here, which seems a bit more to the point)
