Please help.....apparently im retarded

This may be a VERY elementary question and i just do not have the brainpower
to get it done. So please forgive me if this is too easy.

I am trying to be able to remotely login to another computer on my home
network. I can use the remote desktop function however it boots whomever is
using that PC at the time. Is would like to be able to login ineractively
and not boot them off but be able to see what they see and control the
desktop if I need to. The network is setup as a workgroup. All the machine
are at least XP Home. My machine that i am trying to do the remote
connection with ix XP Pro. There are five machines total. Do I need to be
on a domain to be able to do this? I know at work the IT dept. can get the
computer name of my machine and login with me still on it and I can see them
doing their thing. Any information you could provide would be greatly
appreciated.
