Updates did not install

Performed a manual update on MS Site.

Said the following updates were required:

Office 2003 SP3, Excel Viewer SP3, and Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 SP1

I selected "Install",

After an initialization delay of a 30-60 secs, a window popped-up saying
that the above updates failed to install.

A new page opened stating the samething with additional detail:

Problem: A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being
downloaded or installed
Solution: To fix the problem, try installing the updates again. If that
doesn't work, use the Troubleshooter to try solve the problem.
Microsoft Office 2003
Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3)
Excel Viewer 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3)
Microsoft Windows XP
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (KB110806)

Tried the troubleshooter, which stated:
"When accessing the update site, you receive the 0x80240020 error" [this was
a hyper-link. When I clicked on the hyper-link a new window opened stating:

"When accessing the Update site, you receive the 0x80240020 error.
Problem description
Unfortunately due to rather large architectural differences in the version 5
release of the Windows Update Agent, support for the Run As scenario via the
Windows Update website is not possible at this time. However, updating a
system via the most commonly used Scheduled Install or Update at Shutdown
modes of Automatic Updates will work for non-admin users in corporate and
consumer scenarios. This is an important scenario that Microsoft will stay
attentive to and strive for improvements in future versions of the Windows
Update Agent or in future versions of Windows.

Resolutions
1. Log on as an administrator for this computer..
1. Click Start
2. Click Control Panel, and then double-click User Accounts.
If you do not have an adminstrator account, ask one of the administrators
listed to create one for you, and then log on using that account to
visit Windows Update.
Did this resolve your problem?"

I have always had "Admin" rights - It didn't solve anything.

What ever the problem is it seems to have also stopped to update of an
non-MS program also.

ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS????????

Thanks.
