Hi, guys,

I carelessly used cacls just now before experimenting on some some
dummy directories and I denied access to a whole drive to everybody.

The command was:
cacls e: /d Guest

All I wanted is to restrict access to a guest account, but it seems it
has been restricted to everyone, all the users and the administrator.

I kind of got a hang of the command and it's options now, but the
problem is e: cannot be addressed in any way. Some threads suggest
taking ownership of the folder as it is described in MSDN but that
won't work, since certain tabs when I go into "properties" aren't even
there for e: drive.

How do I get access back to normal? Please help.

If you have XP Professional installed on your system, go to Control Panel ->
Folder Options -> View page and uncheck Use simple file sharing. You should now
be able to access the Security tab of the drive's Properties ***. Take
ownership of the drive and reset the permissions to allow access. If you have XP
Home Edition installed on your system, you'll have to boot into Safe Mode to
gain access to the Security tab. To boot into Safe Mode, restart your computer
and keep hitting the F8 key until you see the Windows Advanced Options menu.
