RE: user account not recognized

There are two reasons for this:
=> An infection took place and the virus/worm controlling your system.
Or
=> A user profile corruption.
I will advise you to run a thorough scan for both malware and viruses then
run a disk clean up then open the run command and type in this command:
sfc /scannow click [OK]

Then try this fix:

Note: You can always Restore your System to an earlier date!.

Yes, I have accessed the built in Administrator account through
control_passwords2. All user accounts are there and it appears I can change
their attributes...however when I return to the user accounts in the
traditional way I receive the same error message when clicking on any account
user icon..."Account user not recognized. Please restart and tthen open user
accounts." Restarting has no impact, the error message reappears. I have no
access to any user accounts., neither limited nor Administrative privileges
accounts and therefore cannot update, etc.....any ideas? Thanks for your
help!

In XP, there are no accounts called 'Admin' unless you created one yourself.
There is a built-in account called 'Administrator,' however, and it has full
authority over a workstation. Have you tried that account?

For no apparent reason, I now receive an error message when accessing the
Admin. User account. Upon slection, I receive a message saying "Account not
recognized..". I have no access to system changes, updates, program changes,
etc...
I did recently move the computer and install a new modem but that has been
done before without incident.
Any suggestions??
