I'm using IE6 (My current security settings do not allow me to download
IE7). Have disabled activeX and tried putting in google earth to my
trusted
sights but I am told that my trusted sights will only except https:/ as
a
prefix and not just http:/, so I have entered google earth with
https:/
prefix.
Not sure what an unusual setting in Advanced would be so have tried
different combinations of the advanced setting and also resetting to
defaults
Still having no luck and unfortunately still getting old

Use the Trusted Sites zone to enable the download. For your Internet
zone
try resetting the settings to default level; maybe you have changed
something that needs to be enabled. Also check in Advanced settings
for
any
unusual settings. For the Internet zone you definitely do not want to
have
ActiveX enabled. By the way, are you talking about IE 6 or 7?


The way to enter "http:" instead of "https:" for Trusted Sites is to
uncheck
the box at the bottom of the window. It is the one that says "Require
server
verification (https:) for all sites in this zone". Then you can enter
whatever prefix you want. Leave everything at default in advanced
settings
unless you understand what the settings do.

now have google earth as a trusted site, have changed my security settings
back to medium default. Unfortunately still unable to download, and
getting
used to looking at my screen with a blank exprssion on my face.
If you cannot download IE7 try another web browser such as Opera, Netscape,
Safari beta or Firefox.


Your going to find this hard to believe, but my current security settings
don't allow me to download any of those. Do you now what would happen if I
deleated IE and installed it again? Do you think it would solve the problem,
I take it that if I was to do this then I would need a windows XP disk. Could
I use any XP disk or would it have to be specefic to my laptop?
I know it must be something that I've done to IE somtime in the past but it
really is annoying that the "panic" button doesn't work exactly like the
"harpic advert"
