Re: Delete Registry Key, Has No Security Tab

This is XP Pro. Cannot delete in safe mode or diagnostic mode. This key is the first key in ENUM so the device manager is blank. Tried to do a restore point back to a week earlier, no help. Tried to do an inplace OS repair, stops at 33 minutes, log reports unable to read Enum. Found this key, that I can not delete as there is no security tab. If possible it looks like my only choice is to somehow export the registry, which will not export this key because it does not have permissions, then load up the new exported registry. I have searched for days and have not found anyway to delete this key. Or if I could edit a restore point registry and then restore it that way. Not sure how to continue at this point. I purchase a case with Microsoft, but the 3 techs I talked to had less knowledge about this problem than I do. I have tried there fixes which were basic stuff and no help. I am at a loss here. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I don't think there is any point in trying to delete this registry key. If your Repair Install fails (and it is probably at 34 minutes), then there is a strong probability of bad hardware.

Setup stops responding with 34 minutes remaining - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;828267&Product=winxp

I would start doing some extensive hardware testing before worrying about deleting registry keys.

If you're worried about data that wasn't backed up, pull the drive and slave it in another machine.
