hello,

I happen to have a client that decided to go after the lost
password for his
XP home box and tried reinstalling the OS. And.... Well there
is the issue.
He called Dell and they moved some files around in the
revovery console. Now
(and I do not know how) they managed to get this box to "try"
to login. What
I mean now is that there are no more passwords but everytime
you try and
login the error for the Domain xxxxxxx Cannot be located. So
I scratched my
head and said XP home cannot join a domain. Wha the ???

So I took the drive out of this Dell Box and put it into the
XP pro box I
use as a slave drive and I am trying to access the files for
them this way.
However I cannot access the files as the folders are write
protected.(which I
thought would happen)

How can I acces the files and recover them and then blow this
hardrive away
and give them back freshly formatted XP machine...?

Thanks in advance
Joe

You need to disable Simple File Sharing and take ownership of
the files. Take a look at these articles for more info:
