Then you could stop using it if you wish....or figure out what domains it's
trying to contact. That isn't usually that hard (check your "back" button
contents).

Not sure what you mean. If you're referring to a modified hosts file
to block banner ads/malware/etc., and you're having problems with
specific sites when doing your shopping, you can remark out the
entries with a #. I personally like the hosts file from mvps.org
because I hate ads. Your mileage may vary.
