Hi
I enabled this setting on four of my XP machines that are part of a
workgroup. Two of the machines acted as expected. The ctrl+alt+del
box displays at log on and the user name is blank.
Two other machines refuse to change from fast user switching.
What errors do you get when you try? What do you see in the event logs?
I printed out the security settings on a machine that doesn't display
the last user name and one that does. The settings are identical.
Any ideas?

I have searched all over on how to have Win XP Pro to stop
remembering the last username to logon. I have found a few tips on
how to prevent it on win 2000, but nothing on xp pro. I have
disabled the Welcome screen and now I just have the login box, but
for security reasons I don't want windows to remember who last
logged on. I found this registry hack on another site but it
didn't work:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon Name: DontDisplayLastUserName
Type: Reg_SZ
Value: 1
That's for NT.
In 2k/XP, you'd do this in the local computer policy....start, run,
gpedit.msc
Computer config\windows settings\security settings\local
policies\security options....
Find Interactive Logon: Do not display last user name, double-click
on it and enable it.
