Concerning the correct number of the successfully installed Windows update
(not Automatic upd. !) for XP Pro SP2 I have a Q. for a reply.
I am on the second day running online after completing the Windows update
installation for a clean XP PRO SP2 OEM version CD & my final count including
few optional upd. (NET.Framework, Media Player 11, IE7, etc. around 10 total)
have reached a final total of successfull install 93 out of 156 (63 failed !!)
What does it mean (even when no more Windows automatic updates are found )
concerning the security in Windows?
The system runs fine, only the update history for the currently installed
updates status report that 63 have failed to install !! on XP Pro SP2 system.
Thanks,

On XP Home or Pro system that only has SP1 installed, if I install
SP2 from a CD, will it update the system with all the security and
os fixes I would normally get if I installed all the other XP
updates I would normally get from Windows Update?
Is this a good/safe/time-saving method or do I ned to do it the
long way and get all the downloads, then SP2 then all the remaining
downloads?
Service packs always have been cumulative.
SP1 included all the security patches before its release.
SP2 included SP1 and all security patches before its release.
Just to add to Shenan's good advice, please be aware that Service Pack 2
came out in August of 2005. There are over 75 subsequent updates so you
will still need to go to Windows Update after installing SP2.
Make sure that you do the necessary preparation before installing SP2.
