YW. Suggest you first run a HijackThis scan and also check to see what's loading on startup with Silent Runners - http://www.silentrunners.org
Have you uninstalled the modem from DM and then rebooted to allow the system to detect it ?

I found no problems with the devices though (including hidden ones).
I'm going to have to accept defeat on this one soon, reload from scratch and hope the problem doesn't come back in two weeks agian. I think I'll ghost it also.

Boot to Safe Mode and then check in Device Manager for any problematic entries.
Ensure that Hidden Devices is enabled from View, Show hidden devices.
It *may* be a driver issue if the system is allowed to download and install updates automatically.
