Start | Run | Type: firewall.cpl | Click OK |
On the General tab, click:
On (recommended). This is the setting that you should normally use.
You can also select the Don't allow exceptions check box. When this check box is selected, the firewall blocks all unsolicited requests to connect to your computer, including requests to programs or services selected on the Exceptions tab. Use this setting when you need maximum protection for your computer, such as when you connect to a public network in a hotel or airport, or when a dangerous virus or worm is spreading over the Internet.
The Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service needs to be set to Automatic and it needs to be running.
Open Services...
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK |
Scroll down to and double click Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) |
Set the startup type to Automatic | Click Apply |
Click the Start button | When the service starts, click OK |
Close Services
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\
SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\StandardProfile
Value Name: EnableFirewall
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Value Data: 0 is OFF and 1 is ON
You cannot start the Windows Firewall service in Windows XP SP2
