Re: Keeping files secure while sharing

How do I store all my files on my website

Do you mean...

1) Store my PC's files on my web site

....or...

2) Store my website's files on my PC

....?

If (1), then you're trusting whoever maintains the site (which is
already facing the 'net) to secure and preserve them. That is not
where I'd place any bets at all.

If (2), that's trickier, as the site shouldn't allow direct ftp access
or you don't have such an arrangement. You can visit each page and
save to disk, or use a site ripper that will follow and pull down all
internal links, but there may be "back-end" stuff you'd miss.

and still keep my files secure while using sharing?

I share as little as possible, and full-share (i.e. allowing writes)
even less, and I kill the "hidden" admin shares that XP Pro waves at
"the network" if your account password is not blank.

Specifically, I do not full-share any locations containing code files
(to avoid LAN-hopping generic code-infecting viruses) or any part of
the startup axis (so malware can't write itself to start with the OS).
