Re: Please help-this is so annoying!

Today, Nellie made these interesting comments ...

Oh -- one more comment and a thanks for trying, Wes....

I have had SP2 installed for ages - nothing was wrong until
last week when a security update installed itself - and I
don't know which one it was that screwed this up. I am in
numerous PSP groups and never had any problem until last week.

Hope you find an answer to your dilemma, but your statement above
should give you pause - NEVER let Windows auto-update EVER! Yours
is exactly the kind of problem so many people talk about - their
PC was working fine, an update of some sort installed itself,
then Poof! I have mine set to "notify but do not download" and I
always set my own RP before allowing MS to even download an
update(s) and I set another one before I allow an install. And, I
often lurk here and other places for a day or two to see if
others have had difficulty.

If you haven't already, try rolling your system back to the day
before you think all this happened. In future, strongly consider
buying a good imaging utility that you can use to periodically
back up your system, and beware of the updater in the night!

Again, good luck in finding a solution to your vexing problem.

Nellie
