I suggest you install Mozilla Thunderbird and use it instead of Outlook. It
can
import your existing email.

In fact, even if you didn't want to shift email clients, you could use
Thunderbird to save the attachments you want and keep reading other email in
Outlook. (In this case you shouldn't configure Thunderbird with your mail
server settings, just import the mail from Outlook when you need to save
attachments.) Obviously not the ideal solution - but it would solve your
immediate problem.
Harry.
Thanks Harry. I do have a work-around, and much easier than installing
Tbird. I simply click Forward and forward the mail to a web-only address of
mine on myway.com which is not Pop3 or IMAP and therefore accessed only by
my IE, not OE. I scroll down to the attachment and click DOWNLOAD and it
downloads just fine to my hard drive. Then I can click to open it with
Irfanview and no problem - but I really want to find the security update
that did this to my OE so I can uninstall it! It might have been meant for
MS Office or for WinXP -- I have no clue what did it. I have changed my
options to not have updates install automatically anymore. I will do it
manually - one at a time - so I can tell what messed something up.
