Local folder permissions

Although I know the NT security model very well, I am stuck with the
following configuration scenario:
- On my previous installation of WinXP, The share permissions on the folder
would be set either as everyone Read or My account as full and the NTFS
permissions would have the standard (Admin, System, etc) as full, plus my
account as full. All non-authenticated users are excluded. The result would
be, when an unknown user was attempting connection on a share, he would be
prompted for credentials. Given the proper credentials, he would have
access, otherwise rejected.

Now, my new installation, with the same security permissions (Share= Ev.
Full, NTFS=the same as before), the connection is directly denied. I am not
prompted to provide creedntials.

Any ideas?
