I see no failures in the security log. The funny thing is this only
happens on one PC for the one user + share combination. It is the home
share for that user, but that is the only thing special about it. I
cannot tell when it will happen, it isn't like a timeout because it
seems to be many hours not minutes or seconds. Sometimes it will take
days. I can never tell. As a matter of fact it hasn't occurred again
since I posted this message. It frequently occurs daily. So much so
that I set up a daily scheduled task to drop and recreate the mapping.
My feeling is that the problem is in the AD. I suspect I have created
this AD relationship improperly. I do not know how or why, it is just
a gut feeling that I have done something within AD to cause these
problems.

that something strange with the network connection is going on. It might
help to look in the security log on the server to see if any logon failures
are being shown at times that the share access is being denied. See if this
behavior happens when the share is being accessed from a different computer.
One thought is that the users authentication ticket is expiring per usual
after a period of time and not renewing as expected without some user
intervention.

Thanks for the tip. I will look at NETDIAG. Here's a bit of a twist I
didn't mention in the original post: I have two shares that are
mapped. Both shares are on the same file server. One is public and
one is user specific and private. The public share stays connected
while the private one loses it's rights. I get an access denied error.
If I disconnect that share and map it again it comes right back.

settings - particularly DNS in that the domain computer points only to
domain controllers as preferred and secondary dens servers. It would also
help to check the application and security logs via Event Viewer to see

computer to check it's networking/domain access health.

I have a Windows XP Pro SP2 PC connected to a domain that seems to be
losing rights to a share after extended periods of time. I t only
happens to one share. The public folder is still visible. As a matter
of fact if I delete the share and recreate it it comes right back. I
am baffled.
Running Windows Server 2003 on the domain controller/file server.
