I just put the hard drive from my previous computer as a
slave on my new one. I cannot get into a file, says "access
denied" on the old drive--althought the drive is recognized
and I can access useres who didn't have a password protected
signon, this user had been password protected at sign on. Is
there anyway to open this file? Both computers were XP, the
old one an E machine, the new is a Dell. I know the user's
password. Any way to boot the system from this old, now
slave, drive???

First off, if you want to ask a question, start a new thread.
Posting your question into the middle of another discussion
limits your chances of getting the correct answer.

Now to answer your question, if you're Dell is running XP
Professional, you need to disable Simple File Sharing, take
ownership of the files and assign your account Full Control
Permissions. If you're Dell is running XP Home Edition, you'll
have to boot into Safe Mode and then take ownership. Take a
look at these articles for more info;

"Access is Denied" Error Message When You Try to Open a Folder

For Windows XP Home Edition.
To start in Safe Mode, reboot your computer and
start tapping the F8 key as soon as you see anything displayed
on the screen. Keep hitting F8 until the Advanced Startup
Options menu appears. Use the up and down arrow keys on your
keyboard to select Safe Mode. Hit Enter. Log on with an account
that is a Computer Administrator.

Good luck
