Yes, you can pull the hard drive and retrieve the data from it. You can
slave it in a computer running a working install of XP. Since you would
need an IDE-to-laptop drive adapter, it is much easier to use a
usb/firewire external drive enclosure. Use the working Windows Explorer to
copy the data to the rescue system's hard drive and then burn the data to
cd or dvd.
