Here's my quick question...
I have 1 desktop computer running xp sp2, same as other 3 laptops
running xp sp2, the thing is i have lots of data on the desktop which
i want to share, but only want to share with 2 of the laptops...i've
tried reading helps and topics and as well as kb's but not finding the
answers i would've wanted.
the thing is, how can i add the permissions for the notebooks to gain
access to those shares on the desktop.
of course i unchecked the "use simple file sharing" under folder
options which was more customizable than just sharing it with all the
network
when trying to add 'em the "location" only shows the local computer
(desktop) and there's no way i can figure out to add the notebooks to
the "locations" to look for my users (remote users)
does this mean i gotta have windows server 2003 or similar to get this
simple thing working?
Since you mentioned that you unchecked Simple Sharing, this must mean
that you have XP Pro. In this case, create users and assign permissions
to shares based on the users, or don't create users on the desktop for
the laptop users who shouldn't have access.
My preference would be to share out the folders and specify user access
such as only allowing Administrator (don't forget Administrator!) and
User-X.
