Because the default settings have to go someplace?

If you're interested in the Windows registry you can find piles of information about it on the web, written at every level from wet behind the ears to uber geek.

I have tried this question in the Windows 98 newsgroup, but haven't had much luck, so I thought I would try it here. Perhaps there isn't an answer to this.
