Re: Keeping my pc safe

Hi,

A very comprehensive explanation. Thanks.

But I don't believe that there is one solution to the problem of
spam/virus/malware etc.

There are many available programs that offer good solutions but no one
programs does everything.

I recommend using the free available programs. First and most important is
the firewall. Windows firewall is weak but you can still get Zone Alarm Free
which will do an excellent job of front door master.

After that there are now so many anti virus programs. I still swear by AVG
7.5 free. There is a program called Antivir which I am going to try shortly.

As for basic Antispy/malware programs there is Spybot search and destroy and
Ad-Aware.

I long ago removed Mcafee and Norton from my machines as they offer to much
bloat and interfere with come of the programs I run.

Good luck
Regards,

This is an area where many have differing views on what is good and what
is
not. I firmly believe a user who is short on funds can compile a great
security solution by using different free products. It is just important
for
the user to understand what is needed when selecting those products. I use
Panda which is a far superior paid solution and a far better one than
Norton.

Depends on your definition of better, you won't find it, or MacAfee on
any
of my systems.

There are cheaper options available. Not better options though, as
long
as you have a properly maintained and used computer.
