Re: Problem with SP2 upgrade

I am running Windows XP Home Edition SP1. Yesterday, I got a message
(popup) which said that "Microsoft will stop support for SP1 from
10-October-2006" and prompted me to download/install SP2. Is this a
valid message or some spyware/adware. Unfortunately I followed the
link and it appears that SP2 has got installed, but my system is
completely messed up. Takes ages to start up and hangs randomly

I tried to repair using my XP SP1 CD but problem persists. I am now
getting another message prompting to go to www.regpro32.com.

It is correct that support for XP SP1 systems will end on that date. The
message prompting you to go to a malware site indicates that your
computer was not clean and therefore was not ready to have SP2
installed.

You can try uninstalling SP2 and cleaning up your machine, but a better
course of action might be for you to take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop (not your local version of BigStoreUSA). You know
your skill level best.
