Re: Task Scheduler stopped running and I'm unable to restart

Make sure you are logged an as an administrator account. If that is not the
problem see the link below on how to set security settings to default
defined levels to see if that helps. You can use the /areas services to
reset only services. You also could try System Restore if you have a restore
point before the problem began. Go to accessories/system/system restore to
start the wizard for that. I would also scan your computer for malware and
spyware with the latest definitions for whatever you use as it may be
possible that some malicious program modified your service as it is often
used for antivirus programs to schedule scans.

About 2 weeks ago the Windows Task Scheduler stopped running on my
machine.
I've down everything that I can think of to restart it. Microsoft
Knowledge
Base postings indicate that I install the latest Service Pack, which I
have
done. Specifically, I get "Error 5: Access is denied." when I try to
manually start the scheduler. It is set to automatically restart when the
system boots up but fails to do so. I'd appreciate any help that I can
get
with this. I'm running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2.
