Glad you got it sorted out and thanks for reporting back what worked!

Outlook groups was a good suggestion. All the Office documentation refers
to
this condition as it relates to Exchange Server, which I don't even have a
license for.

This condition occured when I got Outlook.srs out of sync. The .srs
extension stands for send/receive settings.

To fix this problem you must find the Outlook.srs file (you must search
system and hidden files), rename the file to dupOutlook.srs (so you have a
copy), and start Outlook. IMPORTANT: Outlook should not be running while
you do this. When you restart Outlook, it will rebuild the .srs file, and
you should be in business.

P.S.
While Outlook Express is nice in its simplicity, I use Outlook at work and
I
like the familiar interface. Plus there are a lot of powerful features
such
as spam filtering.

In that case I suggest you post in an Outlook newsgroup for advice. I
personally don't use Outlook as I use Outlook Express. Usually in the
account properties you just need to specify the server name and
user/password to get access.

Thanks for the links, they are very interesting. I will read them and
check
permissions in Local Settings\Microsoft\Outlook but I doubt this is the
issue.

I don't think my goal is to access that directory.

The goal is to get Outlook to access my pop server and download email.
When
I try to do this the operating system gives me the error on this
subject
line.

So I take it that you have verified that you are a local
administrator??
If
you are then check the permissions of the folder that you are trying
to
restore to making sure that your user account has full control
permissions
to it and if not then grant your account full control permissions. The
links
below explain more on how to do this and you may need to take
ownership
first.

Sorry, it is early and I have not enough coffee yet. I have
mistyped
the
command in terminal window. It now agrees with what I see in
Management
Console -- just Administrator and me.

"DougE" wrote:

Steve --

I am getting two different pictures here.

From the command console, I don't see anything that looks like me.
Yet
in
the management console in Local Users and Groups in the Groups
directory
there are two members: Administrator and me.

Is it possible I changed the local user for Outlook when I was
restoring
stuff?

I am not sure what the problem is but if you are not already
doing
so
try
adding your user account to the local administrators group as the
problem
sounds to be lack of NTFS permissions and by default
administrators
have
full control access to everywhere in the operating system other
than
the
possibility of another user's profile. If you are not a local
administrator
you would need to logon as a local administrator to add your user
account to
the local administrators group. The command net localgroup
administrators
will show what users are members of the administrator group. If
you
are
unsure of how to open a command window enter cmd.exe in the run
box
and
hit
OK.

I don't know exactly what I have done or how to fix it.

I was messing around with restoring some selected email
messages
to
Inbox
from Ghost 9.0 image.

Now I get this message, and I can not get email into Outlook.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
