Re: user access denied

You need to disable Simple File Sharing on your computer to see the security
tab via Explorer. Once you do that you may need to first take ownership as
an administrator and then grant yourself permissions to access the
folders/files. The owner of a folder/file can always change permissions on
it and administrators can always take ownership. The links below explain in
more detail.

I have the same problem, except there is no password protection. The error
message is get is something to the effect: You do not have the proper
permissions to access this file." I try changing permissions, but Help says
to right click on the file or folder, the properties, then the Security
tab. I have no Security tab, just General, Sharing and Customize. I have a
lot of Office templates on that drive and thought I would be able to access
them.

I have an XP home user profile on my new computer trying to access my
password protected XP pro user profile on my old hard drive. when I
click on
it it says access denied. I've had a similar issue before, to fix it I
switched the view options to some type of simple file sharing and took
control of all my files. however there does seem to be that "simple"
option
on XP home. I need help taking control of my own files. thank you
