OK. It seems like I may have misunderstood the problem if the files were
just missing instead of you not being able to access them. That is curious
that they seem to have disappeared. You might try using a free data recovery
program to see if it can find and restore the files in case they were erased
some how. The link below is to programs that can do that.

Thanks for the reply, i was the owner of the folder already. I guess we
have
to check my friends machine to see what happens when we plug the external
into his computer. I have it set to allow everyone full access control
when
it is plugged into my computer but maybe it isn't the same on his. I just
don't understand why the files aren't even there. We checked the free
space
before and after he loaded his stuff on. It showed the change in the free
space, but once i plugged it into my computer i returned to the original
free
space. It just doesn't make sense to me

It sounds like you are looking at the read only attribute for the folder
which
would have no bearing on your ability to access any files. Possibly the
files
were saved to a folder that is a user/SID on the other operating system
that
your operating system does not recognize and therefore you can not
access. Check
the properties of the folder AND files themselves to make sure you have
permissions to them. If you don't have necessary permissions then you may
first
need to take ownership of the folder/file and then give your user account
permissions. The links below may help and assume that the files are not
encrypted..

I have an AcomData external hard drive. I have only music on it and it
is set
to be shared. I brought it to my friends house to share music so we
don't
have to burn cd's for each other. (Its legal, Dave Matthews Band allows
trading) He put some files onto the drive, it showed them and allowed
him to
play music from the drive. When i got home and connected the drive back
to my
laptop it didn't show the files. I clicked properties on the music
folder and
it says read only, i unclicked it and hit apply, and then ok. To be
sure i
clicked properties again and read only was on again. I have all the
permission set to full control, but why can't files be added from
another
computer and what am i doing wrong. any help would be appreciated.
