NAV - a real resource hog

Hi...I've been having some real slow response time and I think it's due
to Norton Anti-Virus. By looking at the Windows Task Manager /
Processes, NAVAPSVC.EXE has a very high amount of Usage - it's
typically between 50 - 75% of the CPU. And normally it's right around
60-65. Because of this, the System Idle Process is low, low, low.
Is this something that can be looked at and corrected, or at least
improved?
Thank you, DrB
