I have Windows XP Professional and try to keep it updated. The last
thing I remember doing before this bizarre occurence was installing
some updates through AutoPatcher XP April 2006. It installed an
update for Media Player 10, (though I have version 11 beta) among
other updates. Ever since that whenever I try to shutdown or restart
my computer it just goes to the shutting down screen plays the sound
and gets stuck. I know it isnt hung since I can move the mouse
pointer but the computer just wont shutdown or restart. But I have
seen that if I run the command "%windir%\system32\shutdown.exe -s -t
01", the computer shuts down fine. Windows Media Player
11.0.5358.4827 also works perfectly. What is the problem with my
computer? Can someone please help.
Event logs?
I've never used AutoPatcher (and am skeptical about it). You might find it
easiest to use system restore & get yourself back to a date when it
worked....and do your patching more carefully.
