Hi

I am looking for a file protection system for my personal files at
home. I am running Windows XP Pro. I want to be able to encrypt my
files. Then if my computer dies, or I want to open those files on
another WinXP Pro computer I would like to have a password system to
decrypt them.

EFS looks ideal, but I can't figure out the decryption process on
another computer with certificates. It seems to require you to be on a
domain, and have a recovery agent login account. It is very confusing.

I am not sure if I am missing something with EFS, but I am looking for
a simple home system.

Is EFS the way to go with me? Or should I be looking at something else?

EFS can be very tricky. Look at True Crypt instead:
