If he is indeed logged on as an administrator he should be able to manage
registry permissions. If the permissions are grayed out that means they are
inherited and if he needs to edit for a user/group that has inherited
permissions he will need to go into the advanced page and uncheck inherit
form parent... at which point he will get a prompt to select clear or copy
current permissions and I usually suggest that you select copy and then edit
from there. I also suggest that he backup the registry key he is working on
first "just in case". --- Steve

Hello:
An IT person at one of our offices is unable to edit the registry
permissions of a Windows 2000 Professional machine.
When he uses the menu Security...Permissions, the Permissions selection is
grayed out. He is logged on as Administrator--at least, that's what he
says.
How can he edit the permissions? How can he "ungray" this?
I know that this newsgroup is a Windows XP newsgroup. But, I had to post
this Windows 2000 question here, because I could not find the Windows 2000
group.
I am really suprised that I could not find an answer to this question in
either microsoft.com or google.com.
