That does not sound promising with Microsoft's and Maxtor's replies. What
would be interesting to try is to create an image of the system partition of
a successfully installed XP Pro SP2 installation on a computer with like
hardware [other than hard drive] and then restore that image to a computer
that you are having a problem with to see if the operating system then
works. From what I could see the Intel D845HV is no longer supported from
Intel so they would not be of help though I would be sure have tried their
latest download for that motherboard on a computer if you have not done
such. You said that it works with a new Maxtor hard drive but that is
probably a different model. The other thing I would try is to do an install
with SP2 sliptreamed into the install disk though I am not sure from your
post if you mean you can not install SP2 onto an existing installation or
you can not install XP with SP2 slipstreamed into the install.. --- Steve

slipstream SP2 into XP install disk.

Thanks Steven, I had a case opened with Microsoft about this
SRX050729600625.
And they came up with Sp2 was not compliant or a damage the hard drive.
Which to us doesn't make sence because we take the same drive an put it
into
another drive and it was OK. The problem is a combination of the intel
D845HV
and Maxtor. we already spoke with maxtor and they claim that they never
heard about this.

Has this happened on more than a few computers?? Will it work for a
new/pristine install on the existing hard drive model or only does it
only
fail on existing applications? If you have not seen the link below it may
be
helpful and contains a link to computer manufacturer websites to get info
on
upgrading to SP2 and you may also want to contact Maxtor explaining what

other
newsgroups such as Windowsxp.general and

We have like 1000 computers with the motherboard Intel D845HV with
Maxtor
drive and we can not install Windows XP SP2 on them. If we go in
recovery
console and run CHKDSk /R it comes back with errors. But if we install
Win2K
it doesn't reports any errors on the disk. We have tried also the
Maxtor
Utility disk and there are not errors on the same disk. If we replace
the
drive with any other drive or with a new Maxtor drive, it is OK
SO Why is WinXP SP2 see errors while the Win2k and Maxtor Utility
doesn't
see any errors?
