Re: Money file was backup now cannot open when WINXP OS was redone

Windows XP Home edition. I have not encrypted. However money will ask for a
pass word when It starts up. So the file may automatically be encrypted by
money.

Somewhere in the money system It rejects the original file.
1st it considers it a older version. and tries to convert it to the new
version
then it says "Cannot locate path to file (which is correct because I use
browse to find it). .... or cannot open" "possibly because do not have
permission, read only file, or disk drive is write protected."

My drive is the C: drive.
I have made sure the file is not checked as read only in the properties.
I have claimed the ownership of the file.
The only thing I can think of is that some how the file is locked by Money.
and even though I am using the same pass word it will not recognize it.
Which relates back to the backup of the owner files originaly done when I
used the restore disk.

Any suggestions.

Windows XP Home or Pro?
If Pro, did you encrypt the data?

If you did not encrypt the data, taking Ownership should resolve it.

If you did encrypt the data, you need access to the original encryption
keys.

I am encouraged by the range of experience and hope you can solve my
problem.

I created a years worth of information on money 2005. I am operating win
xp. When a problem developed I was advised by the Manufactor to pull out
my
restore disks and run them. Which I did. the system gave me the option
of
backing up my data. Which I did. 7 hours later I was running again. I
found that I could not access my old data, (Which they did not warn me
might
happen), even though I was the original owner and had the same password.

I then found how to gain ownership by accessing through safe mode and
getting ownership. I now can view my pictures ect....

However I have been unable to access my money file. I have taken
ownership
ect... but when I try to load money, money simply says access denied.

Do you have a suggestion?

regards

.
