I know that every time I turn on my computer with XP, there is data exchange
between (I assume) Microsoft and the computer. I can see this by watching
the activity in bytes received and transmitted.
Does anyone know exactly what is going on during that connection? Perhaps,
it's just checking for updates?
Do you have WinXP set to automatically check for updates? Do you have
WinXP set to automatically check the time? The computer will be doing
no more than you've allowed it to do. (Even if unintentionally, by your
having installed spyware.)
