Have you tried taking ownership?

HOW TO: Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=308421

NOTE: You must be logged on to the computer using an account that has
administrative privileges. If you are running Windows XP Home Edition, in
order to have access to the Security tab, you must first start in Safe
Mode and log on with an account that has Administrative rights.

I have recently reinstalled XP after numerous problems. I am now trying to
access user folders that were created before the reinstall. I can access
all bar one, which was an admin account (others were limited). Even when I
log in as admin I keep getting an access denied message.

How can I get around this? I need the files!
